PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The chief medical superintendent at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital Dr RS Bisht stated that the new nursing staff will join within a few days and that the ICU bed facilities and other services will be upgraded along with this by the end of April. He said this while discussing the progress of strengthening new amenities for patients at the hospital. Notably, appointment letters have recently been issued to the nursing staff.

According to Bisht, with the addition of new nursing personnel, the overall facilities at the hospital would improve. Regarding the current situation, he said that the appointment letters have been recently handed over to the new nursing staff. However, he said that this does not imply that the nurses have begun providing their services immediately.

He said that 271 new GDMC nurses have been appointed and the onboarding process is underway. However, it will take 15 days for these nurses to join the hospital officially.  Following their arrival, the hospital administration plans to enhance facilities, including the dialysis, ICU and others. At present, there are only 80 ICU beds in operation, but with the recruitment of additional nurses and staff, this number is expected to rise by 20 to 30. Further, dialysis services will be expanded to cover two shifts. He also added that with the new nurses coming on board, other facilities at the hospital will also see improvements.

In relation to the preparations for the Char Dham Yatra, he stated that this year, GDMC and Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali  (VCSG) Government Medical College, Srinagar have been tasked to provide training to the doctors who will provide services during the pilgrimage. However, he said that the list of doctors for these training sessions has not yet been provided.

The medical college will start providing training in batches once the list is finalised. Each batch will consist of 30 doctors, who will undergo training for two days. He said that all arrangements for the training have been fully completed.
