Noted environmentalist Vandana Shiva has said that the ideas and policies propounded by Sunder Lal Bahuguna are more relevant today and the present day policies of the government are meddling with the environment in the name of development.
She was speaking at a webinar organised by Doon University on Bahuguna here on Wednesday. Recalling her long association with Bahuguna, she said that the threat on human lives has increased due to artificial food products and their use should be curtailed. The vice chancellor (VC) of Doon University, Surekha Dangwal said that the objective of the webinar was to pay homage to Bahuguna and remembering his works so that new generation is apprised of his work and philosophy. A close associate of Bahuguna, Radha Behen said that he toured the world and created awareness on environmental protection.
Geologist SP Sati said that the best homage to Bahuguna would be to follow his ideals. Kalyan Singh Rawat ‘Maiti’ said that Bahuguna wanted to increase community participation in protecting ‘Jal, Jameen and Jangal’. The webinar was attended by more than 180 participants and was coordinated by the dean of student welfare, HC Purohit.
