In latest Uttarakhand news, an important meeting was held between inspector general of police (IG) Kumaon and the members of the anti- nuisance squad and police volunteers at the former’s camp office in Haldwani regarding traffic arrangements, verification and anti-encroachment drives. The following instructions were issued during the meeting:
1. Police will act relentlessly against encroachment of roads. If the encroachers do not comply despite repeated persuasion, legal action would be taken against them and charges will be registered as per laws.
2. Verification will be done of all the food carts, kiosks etc operating on the roads.
3. All the roadside traders must keep with them the identity cards provided by civic bodies and the verification certificates issued by police.
4. All should have the I-cards hung around their necks.
5. If Identity cards/verification certificates are not found during the raids conducted by the anti- nuisance squad a fine of Rs 10,000 may be imposed under the Police Act.
6. Direction was issued to remove the vehicles found parked along the white line on the roads. The same applies to encroachment of roads. Hawkers trading from unauthorised carts installed on the footpath would be stopped.
7. Anti-nuisance squad will remove unauthorised signboards of shops permanently installed on the roads affecting traffic flow. Fines can be imposed on the errant shopkeepers and even legal action may be taken against them.
8. The senior district level police officers and the police station-in-charges concerned would review the progress of the drive/campaign from time to time.
9. The campaign has been going on continuously from May 24. The results though satisfactory so far, more still needs to be done.
