IG, STF & DIG inspect security arrangements for Kanwad Mela

The Kanwad Mela security arrangements were reviewed by the inspector general of Special Task Force, Nilesh Anand Bharne and deputy inspector general (Crime and Law and Order), Dhirendra Singh Gunjyal during a visit to Haridwar on Monday. They inspected security at Chandi Chowk, Shankaracharya Chowk, Bairagi Camp parking, Har Ki Pauri and other busy locations.
The team reviewed traffic management, crowd control and facilities for Kanwwadyas and directed police personnel to remain alert and respond quickly to any emergency.
The officers also inspected the Mela control room and the CCTV monitoring system, which is being used to keep watch on security, traffic and the movement of pilgrims across Haridwar city and nearby rural areas. They instructed the staff to closely monitor every activity and immediately report any suspicious incident.
Later, a review meeting was held with super zonal and zonal police officers to assess the current arrangements and plan for the coming days. The officers also felicitated police personnel, paramilitary jawans and Special Police Officers (SPOs) for their good work during the Kanwad Mela.
The officers said that traffic management should be further strengthened as the number of pilgrims is expected to increase. They directed officials to resolve even minor incidents quickly to prevent any disruption.
The senior officers also asked the 24×7 social media monitoring team to remain active and take immediate legal action against anyone spreading rumours, false information or objectionable content online.
They said that senior officers at the police headquarters are continuously monitoring the Kanwad Mela and instructed all police personnel to work as one team.
