IIT Roorkee student from Rajasthan drowns in Haridwar

A 21-year-old student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee identified as Siddhartha from Rajasthan died due to drowning in the Ganga river near Chandighat in Haridwar on Sunday morning. The officials informed that the district disaster management office (DDMO) of Haridwar called in the team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Sunday morning soon after it got information about the victim drowning in the river.
The deep search diving team of the SDRF reached the spot from the Dhalwala post led by sub-inspector Manish Bhakuni and started the rescue operation. The team was finally able to find the body and pulled it out from the river. The officials said that one of the personnel gave the student Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in an attempt to save him but it failed. The team handed over the body to the police to carry out the remaining procedure. According to the police, the student Siddhartha had arrived at the ghat to hang out with his friends. According to his friends, he was swimming in the river on Sunday morning when he suddenly started drowning and was not visible to them anymore, as per the police.
