With the authorities continuing to take action against illegally constructed religious structures, the Haridwar district administration demolished an illegally constructed Mazar at the Harilok Colony in the Jwalapur Kotwali area of Haridwar on Sunday. The illegal structure was bulldozed amidst heavy police presence and teams of the district administration.

According to official sources, a notice had been served in the past regarding the illegality of the structure. Despite this the encroachment was not voluntarily removed by the persons responsible. Following this, the administration initiated the demolition process on Sunday morning. A crowd of people gathered at the site during the demolition though the situation remained under control.

Sub divisional magistrate Ajay Veer Singh informed that the task of demolishing illegal religious structures is underway following strict directions from chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to this effect. A notice had been issued earlier to this illegally constructed Mazar in the Sarai area which falls under Jwalapur Kotwali.

Since no reply was received to the notice, the Haridwar district magistrate issued the orders for the demolition of the illegal structure. Following this, the encroachment was removed on Sunday morning. The SDM further informed that more than 10 illegal religious structures have been removed in the Haridwar area following due process so far. There are more such structures in the area which may face action in the future.
