Illegal parking near prominent mall in Doon, locals raise concerns
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun
Illegal parking is being carried out openly in Dehradun, raising concerns among local residents. The issue has been reported on the way to Garhniwas near a prominent mall on Haridwar Road, where some persons are running an unauthorised parking service along the roadside.
According to the information, the parking is being operated in the name of a purported temple committee. Those working for the committee charge Rs 20 for parking two-wheelers on the roadside, even though the parking is not approved by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun with no official permission being taken from the authorities.
A Garhniwas resident said that when they opposed this, the people involved started arguing with them and threatened them. Residents say that this illegal activity is happening in the open, but neither the police nor the local authorities have taken any action so far. This parking on the road is causing problems for pedestrians and locals in the area, citizens said.
The MCD deputy commissioner Tanveer Marwah confirmed that no permission has been given for such a parking in the said area. Local people have demanded that the administration should take swift action to stop the illegal collection and improve the traffic situation in the area.
Jogiwala police chowki in-charge, sub-inspector Vijay Pratap said that they have no information about this issue as no one has filed any complaint so far. He added that action will be taken if a complaint is received by the police.
