In latest news from Uttarakhand, acting on the order of the Almora district magistrate Alok Kumar Pandey, a joint team of the administration and the forest department sealed the resorts of a BJP leader at Thiklana village in Bhaisiyachana block of Almora district. The action followed the allegation that the resorts are located on the forest panchayat land. Besides, as per the allegations, illegally mined construction materials were found dumped near the resorts. These were confiscated later. The SDM Sadar who was a member of the team issued an order for removal of the forest land encroachment.
The BJP leader who was allegedly building the resort said that old rivalry was behind the complaint and the matter was being resolved through talks with the villagers. Welcoming the investigation, he said he would accept whatever its outcome.
Notably, a video purportedly showing extensive mining in the forested area and felling of trees at Thiklana village circulated on the social media had gone viral, drawing flaks.
