In protest against what they claim is a failure of the State government to take concrete steps in the paper leak cases, the leaders and workers of Congress party led by former chief minister Harish Rawat held a fast in front of the statue of the Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Park here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, Rawat said that the BJP government of Uttarakhand has failed completely and it has no control over the officers. He said that the unemployed of the State suffering from the impact of Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection commission (UKSSSC), cooperative and Vidhan Sabha recruitment scams have now been jolted by the Patwari paper leak case which has maligned the image of the State in the country. He said that the Patwari scam has exposed the ‘zero tolerance on corruption’ and corruption free governance claim of the BJP government. Rawat said that the name of one officer has come to the fore in the Patwari scam but that many more are likely to be involved in it. He said that the government should get the case investigated properly to apprehend the culprits. Rawat said that the Pushkar Singh Dhami government is taking examination of the patience of the youths of the State. He expressed apprehension that there must be someone who was the patron of Hakam Singh, the so-called mastermind of the UKSSSC paper leak case. He said that the CM himself had said that now no one can even think about any irregularity in the examinations after the UKSSSC scam but the Patwari paper leak has occurred now. The former CM said that Uttarakhand has become a haven of the corrupt. He said that the brazen manner in which the paper was leaked and scammers got the paper solved in a resort puts a question mark over the capability of the State government.
Former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal said that a series of scams has tainted the image of the State. Former MLA of Kedarnath Manoj Rawat said that the government has now declared that an anti copying law would be enacted but it was in sleeping mode since the UKSSSC scam came to fore six months ago. The Haridwar rural MLA Anupama Rawat, Vice President, organisation Mathura Dutt Joshi, Dhirendra Pratap, Vijay Saraswat, Garima Dasauni and others were present on the occasion.
