Implement relaxation to expedite construction of playgrounds in schools & colleges: Arya

The Sports minister Rekha Arya has instructed officials to promptly adopt relaxation in the site selection committee to overcome the problem in the construction of playgrounds in schools and colleges.

The Sports minister said that the process of providing the report of the venue selection committee is taking a significant amount of time whereas previously, the entire process was completed within a maximum of only 10 days. In the current system, the venue selection committee submits its report in six stages with the site selection committee taking a minimum of three months to complete these stages. This unnecessary delay in commencing the construction work is impractical. In view of this, Arya directed officials to take action and resolve the issues faced in the construction/renovation of sports grounds in schools/colleges by relaxing the said limit as soon as possible.

Notably, the Finance department issued a direction on June 12, 2023, which made it compulsory to submit a report from the site selection committee for the construction or renovation of sports grounds in schools. Additionally, the mandate also enforced the obligation of constructing sports grounds in schools.
