The chief spokesperson of State Congress Garima Dasauni has said that instead of foisting Uniform Civil Code (UCC) only on Uttarakhand the BJP government should ensure its implementation in the entire country. She said that speculation is rife that the State government can convene a special session of the Assembly on the UCC. She said that if the BJP thinks that UCC is in the best interests of the country then instead of implementing it in isolation in Uttarakhand the party should implement it in the entire country. “UCC stands for uniformity and implementing it only in Uttarakhand will not serve the purpose,’’ she said.
Dasauni said that implementation of UCC is a Union subject and the entire exercise on it will get wasted if the Union government implements it in the country. She said that the Dhami government has changed statements on UCC many times in the past which shows that it is not serious on it.
