Parenting is an extremely challenging phase of life. Every action of parents affects their children in one way or another. However, nowadays improper parenting is resulting in bad behavioural changes among children. Experts point out that improper parenting has encouraged bad habits among children. Lack of attention, social interaction, behavioural changes, drugs and alcohol consumption are the common results of improper parenting among children. The busy schedule of parents has impacted the overall life of children in a negative way, state experts.

Commenting on improper parenting clinical psychologist Mukul Sharma said, “About 98 per cent of people are parenting their children improperly. Improper parenting is a vital factor that influences children towards bad habits. Nowadays both parents tend to be working and this has impacted the upbringing of their children. Less interaction with their children makes them free to take important decisions in their life. Drug plus alcohol consumption and phone addiction are the common negative impacts of improper parenting.”

He further said that in the last few years, the rate of alcohol consumption has increased among girls, which is another ill effect of improper parenting. He said that instead of society, parents are the first influencers, doctors and counsellors of their children. Therefore, parents must understand that children are their big investment, which has to be maintained properly. Apart from this parents must know how to tackle their children’s problems and interact with them as much as possible, he opined.

Clinical psychologist Pratibha Sharma said “Parenting is a challenging responsibility for the parents. However, nowadays people lack in terms of proper parenting. Earlier, parents understood the importance of giving time to their children. But with the passage of time, parents got so busy earning that they have started neglecting their children. Apart from this, parents hand over phones to their children at a very young age which affects their mental health. Social media addiction, drug and alcohol consumption, and aggression among the children are the common negative impacts of improper parenting.”

She further stated that improper parenting is even affecting the future career of the children. She suggested that parents must establish an internal connection with their children and understand their responsibility.
