In Rudrapur of Udham Singh Nagar district, JCBs became active and razed down over 100 unauthorized shops standing along the road from DD Chowk to Indra Chowk. The operation started after the nod was given from the senior police and administrative officials. It is learnt that more than half a dozen JCBs were used in the demolition drive. Earlier, the administration promulgated prohibitory order under 144 Section.
Anticipating traders’ protest, police contingents have been deployed at sensitive points across the district. Besides, the district administration has picked up some trader leaders and the political leaders to prevent possible law and order problem. It is learnt that heavy police posts have been set up along Kiccha Bypass Road, around Gandhi Park, from DD Chowk to Indra Chowk, Kashipur Bypass Road and Supermarket. Besides, traffic is being diverted from DD Chowk to Indra Chowk.
