Increase fluid intake, eat healthy to tackle effects of rising temperature: experts

The temperature has been rising consistently in both the plains and mountainous regions of the State. The maximum temperature in the provisional State capital Dehradun was above 37 degrees Celsius on Monday and forecast to reach 30 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Among the various factors associated with the summer heat, dehydration is the most common and one that may even have a serious impact on the health of a person if proper measures are not taken.

Experts point out that in order to overcome dehydration especially during the summer it is important to ensure proper water level in the body. However, dehydration is tackled not only by ensuring the proper level of water in the body but also by adding necessary nutritious items in the daily meals. 

Considering this, apart from ensuring adequate fluid intake, it is also important to take care of what one should eat and what one should avoid eating during the summer season. Talking about tackling dehydration during summer, dietician Richa Sharma said, “The summer season can be a tough time for students and people who indulge in field activity.

Especially during the month of May and June, people should pay attention to their diets and must include some healthy items to their meal. To prevent dehydration, avoid consuming artificial fruit juices. Apart from this one must eat raw fruits which are considered more healthful. School students must especially increase the quantity of fruits in their tiffin as compared to normal food.” She further said that people should avoid overeating during summer.  They must consume more liquids like nimbu pani, glucose and buttermilk.   Doing Yoga in the early morning can also be beneficial in increasing stamina amid the rise in temperature, added Sharma.
