Independents perform better than national parties in Uttarkashi

PNS | UTTARKASHI

Independent candidates secured victories in various local bodies in Uttarkashi district, which is also being seen as a message from the voters to the BJP and Congress. While the two national parties managed to win in some local bodies, the independent candidates performed considerably well, to the surprise of many. The civic poll results point towards a change in the local politics and the changing priorities of the voters.

Local issues and the hold of local leaders played a decisive role in deciding the election results. While Congress’ Bihari Lal won in Purola, BJP’s Vijay Kumar won in Naugaon. Among the independent candidates, Manoj Kohli won in Chinyalisaud, Vinod Dobhal won in Badkot and Bhupendra Singh Chauhan won in Badahat. The poll results show that the voters have sent a serious message to the big political parties by moving away from traditional politics and choosing leaders they believe can ensure real development in their area.
