India can become world leader in drone technology: Governor

The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh said that India has the potential to become a world leader in drone technology. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Surya Drone Tech -2025 exhibition at Jaswant Ground inf Dehradun Cantt on Tuesday.
The governor said that the picture of emerging India is clearly visible in the exhibition by collaborative efforts of engineers, entrepreneurs and policy makers. He said that the exhibition showcases the technological advancements and shows how the drone technology can play an important role in giving a shape to our future.
The governor said that the exhibition is a platform of innovation and it provides a unique platform to the industry, policy makers, investors and researchers. He said that about 270 startups are working in the field of drone technology in the country and by the year 2026 and 2029, the industry is expected to be the tune of Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 12,000 crore respectively.
Drones are becoming new engines of development of the country and are important in the agriculture, logistics, disaster management, defence and law and order maintenance.
He said that Uttarakhand with its strategic location, geography and invocation can become a leader in drone technology.
Speaking on the occasion, the general officer commanding in chief of the Central Command lieutenant general Anindya Sengupta said that unmanned systems have become in integral part of modern defence system. He said that today India is at the cusp of a technology revolution in the sector of defence.
Lieutenant general Navin Sachdeva, lieutenant general Sandeep Jain, lieutenant general DG Mishra and others attended the programme.
The programme was organised under the aegis of the central command of Indian army with assistance from society of Indian defence manufacturers.
