Social worker and proponent of Gandhian philosophy, Agus Indra Udayan from Indonesia who received the Padma Shri in 2020 was felicitated by Padma Shri recipients of Uttarakhand.
Speaking on the occasion, he recalled his experiences in social work and how his life was altered after he studied Gandhi at Gujarat Vidyapeeth. Stressing on the importance of reducing complications, he said the Covid pandemic had taught people the value of simplicity. Stating that he focuses on ‘Daridra Narayan’ he also talked about the scholarships and education being provided by his Ashram in Bali. The host, Padma Shri recipient orthopaedic surgeon Dr BKS Sanjay along with other Padma Shri recipients Leeladhar Jaguri, Basanti Bisht, Kalyan Singh Rawat and Madhuri Barthwal also felicitated Udayan on the occasion. State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Dr Geeta Khanna, industrialist S Farooq, Dr Sujata Sanjay and Dr Gaurav Sanjay among others were also present on the occasion. Thanking the guests on the occasion, Dr BKS Sanjay appreciated the work being undertaken by Udayan and also recited a poem from his own book Uphar Sandesh Ka.
