Industries told to ensure communication with workers & compliance with laws

Considering the protests at industrial enterprises in different parts of Dehradun causing some disturbance, the Industry secretary Vinay Shankar Pandey held a meeting with officials of the Industry department, Labour department at representatives of various industrial associations at the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (SIIDCUL) on Tuesday to discuss recent instances of dissatisfaction among industrial workers and other issues. Industrial associations were directed to hold regular dialogue with labourers to decrease instances of dissatisfaction.

Labour commissioner PC Dumka said that the main issues for the dissatisfaction were payment of overtime, clarity on minimum wages, better facilities foe health and security standards, formation of complaints redressal committees and payment of dearness allowance arrears. Pandey directed the association representatives to form complaint redressal committees as per the labour codes on their premises to ensure regular communication with the workers. The industries were also directed to ensure ambulance facility in factories and to use the 108 emergency service in establishments with less than 10 workers.

The representatives of the industries informed the officials that they are following the labour laws, adding that they will form the complaint redressal committees to ensure communication with the workers at regular intervals. The Industry secretary also said that he expects that all the industries will take necessary measures to maintain a cordial atmosphere on their premises while also ensuring their compliance to the labour laws.

Industry director general Saurabh Gaharwar, additional labour commissioner Anil Petwal, SIIDCUL general manager Puran Singh Rana and others were present in the meeting.
