Inflation climbs up, affects household budgets in U’khand

The upsurge in the inflation rate is now worrying the people of Uttarakhand. The data released last Tuesday in a report from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation shows Uttarakhand’s rising inflation at 6.6 per cent. The inflation rate is at a 17-month high with the increase having been considerably more than forecasted. 

Uttarakhand is now among the states which have high inflation rate which is affecting the routine lives of people. It has also affected shopping for daily needs due to the high prices of fruits, vegetables and other food items.

Uttarakhand’s inflation rate in December last year was 5.83 per cent, which jumped by about 0.55 per cent to 6.38 per cent in January this year. But now in March the rate has further grown to 6.6 per cent.The state has been ranked 14th in the all India list. Earlier, during February 2022, Uttarakhand was positioned 8th among Indian states considering the inflation rate.

According to the data measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), West Bengal has an 8.85 per cent inflation rate, the highest in India following Uttar Pradesh and Assam at 8.19 per cent. However, Tamil Naidu has only 4.36 per cent inflation rate which is the lowest in the country.  India’s inflation rate was measured at 6.95 per cent- for rural areas it is 7.66 per cent whereas in cities it is 6.12 per cent. 

In Uttarakhand, the inflation rate for cities was recorded at 6.33 per cent, whereas the rural area had 6.86 per cent inflation rate.

According to the Consumer Price Index, edible oil’s inflation rate is now 18.79 per cent in comparison to 18.70 per cent in January. The inflation rate of vegetables and fruits is at 11.64 per cent, footwear at 11.29 per cent, while meat and fish inflation rate is at 9.63per cent.
