The Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat has ordered an inquiry in the case of the death of a newborn baby in Almora when it was being transported to a higher centre. Assuring the family members of strict action the minister has directed the director general of Health Services and the district magistrate to investigate the case. Terming the death of the newborn as very serious, the Health minister said that the Health department and the DM will hold separate inquiries in the case and submit their reports within a week. The minister said that those found responsible in the case would be punished. He said that such incidents will not be tolerated in the State.
It is pertinent to mention here that Arti Arya, a resident of Falsima in Almora district delivered a premature baby when she was being transported to the district hospital. The doctors of the hospital referred the newborn to the base hospital from where it was again referred to a higher centre as reportedly there was no space in the ICU of the hospital. The newborn died while it was being transported to Haldwani.
