Integrated plan to augment income of Yatra route villagers on the anvil

The Tourism department of State is working on a comprehensive plan to enhance the income of the people residing on the Char Dham Yatra routes in Uttarakhand.

On the orders of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the department is focussing on an integrated approach involving active involvement and support from departments such as Horticulture and Skill Development.

Informing about the plan, the newly appointed Secretary, Tourism Dhiraj Singh Garbyal said that the department is working on a plan in which all the villagers located on the Char Dham Yatra route will be encouraged to reserve and develop at least one room in their house as homestay. He said that the villagers will be provided necessary help in necessary improvements in their houses.

Garbyal added that the villages located on the Yatra route will also be promoted to engage in activities such as growing vegetables and engage in floriculture in the polyhouses with the help of the Horticulture department.  He said that the coordination with the Skill Development department will be done to provide regular training to the villagers having home stays, taxi drivers and Dhaba owners on the Yatra route. The secretary said that the integrated approach will help in augmenting the income of the people dependent on the Char Dham Yatra.

He added that the department is also focussing on giving a flip to adventure tourism and help from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) for imparting training to youngsters. Similarly outdoor learning courses for the youth will be initiated.

DEHRADUN: The Tourism secretary Dhiraj Singh Garbyal has said the carrying capacity of the Kainchi Dham in Nainital district will be calculated. It will help in regulating the traffic. He said that deliberations for introducing the system of registration of the pilgrims for visiting the Kainchi Dham are also being made. It is pertinent to mention here that the number of devotees visiting the Kainchi Dham has increased tremendously in the last few years creating traffic congestions.
