Interim relief of Rs 1.50 lakh given to 42 affected families

The interim relief of Rs 1.50 lakh has been disbursed to a total of 42 affected families in Joshimath till Thursday. The secretary disaster management Ranjit Sinha told media persons at the State secretariat on Thursday that a sum of Rs 45 Crore has been sanctioned to provide interim relief to the affected families and the process to disburse it is going on. He said that different agencies are involved in different operations in Joshimath city. Sinha said that the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology has been assigned the task of geo-physical analysis and seismological studies of Joshimath area while Geological Survey of India (GSI) team is conducting geological studies of Joshimath and three areas earmarked by the government for building new colonies. He added that the National Institute of Hydrology is conducting hydrological studies while the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee is engaged in a variety of activities ranging from the damage assessment and preparing guidelines for new houses. Sinha said that discharge of water in JP colony has reduced substantially. He said that eight teams of SDRF and three teams of NDRF are deployed in Joshimath while one more team of NDRF is being sent to the city.
