The Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST) and Valley of Words (VOW) will organise an international seminar on the history of science in India at Vigyan Dham in Dehradun on Friday. Addressing the mediapersons on Thursday, UCOST director general Rajendra Dobhal said that people talk about history and science but not enough attention is given to the history of science in our country. He said, “Children are taught history in schools but not about the history of science in our country.
We wanted to bring the change and make people more familiar with the fascinating history of the science behind various things and discoveries. This is the reason UCOST and VOW decided to organise this seminar to reach more people.” He informed that four professors from prominent universities of the country will talk about the history of science in the seminar besides other dignitaries.
Curator of VOW, Sanjeev Chopra said that the seminar will have sessions about the history of medicine, information technology, science and technology along with the session of astronomy in ancient India which are not usually discussed like other subjects. He also informed that the winners of the PFC-VoW Book Awards will also be announced at the event.
