International Yoga Day celebrated at Har Ki Paidi

Har Ki Paidi was one of the heritage sites across India where the International Yoga Day was celebrated on Tuesday. Students of different schools, youth and senior citizens did Yoga to mark the occasion here. Union minister Giriraj Singh, Haridwar MP and former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, BJP State president and Haridwar MLA Madan Kaushik, office bearers of Ganga Sabha and district magistrate Vinay Shankar Pandey among others also participated in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Union minister Singh said that Yoga programmes were held at 75 famous locations of the nation on the occasion. Famous across the world and part of India’s cultural heritage, Haridwar was also chosen as one of these sites. He said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed International Yoga Day in the United Nations in 2014 because Yoga is the ancient science of India and 177 countries decided to celebrate it as International Yoga Day. Though it was opposed by some people in Pakistan, Yoga is very important for everyone’s health and wealth, he said.
Ganga Sabha general secretary Tanmay Vashishth said hat it was a momentous occasion with such a large Yoga event being held for the first time at Har Ki Paidi in Haridwar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inspiring youth and everyone to stay fit and healthy for which Yoga is best, he added.
