Investigate role of BJP leaders in privatization of IMPCL: Mahara

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has demanded that the government should order an inquiry on the connection of Sanjay Gupta, the key bidder of the Indian Medicines Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited (IMPCL) Mohan, Almora with the BJP leaders. He said that the process of privatization of IMPCL which is a profit making Public Sector Undertaking should be immediately stopped.
Addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan here on Thursday the PCC president said the IMPCL was set up in the year 1978 and it manufactures more than 1200 Ayurveda and Unani medicines. In the last three years the company has earned profit of Rs 15 crore, Rs 45 crore and Rs 29 crores respectively. He said that the livelihood of more than 5000 families is directly dependent on the company. Mahara said it has come to the fore that Skymap Pharmaceuticals private limited owned by Sanjay Gupta has emerged as a key bidder in the process of privatisation of IMPCL. He claimed that Gupta is reportedly director in approximately 20 shell companies and is a relative of senior leader of BJP Ram Lal. Mahara added that the connection between Sanjay Gupta , his companies and MD IMPCL should be investigated. He said that the role of the shell companies owned by Gupta and their links with prominent politicians should also be investigated. Mahara said that Narendra Modi is continuing to sell the assets of the country and the privatization of IMPCL, a profit making company is a step in this direction.
The PCC president said that the supply of ration under the public distribution system (PDS) in the mountainous areas of the State has stopped due to the refusal of the transporter to ferry the grain. He said that the government has not paid the dues of the transporters from the last three to four years due to which they have refused to transport the ration. Mahara added that the poor people residing in the mountainous areas of the State have got adversely affected by the paucity of the ration during the marriage season.
