The chief secretary SS Sandhu has directed the Skill Development department to make efforts to know the interest of the children to provide them necessary skill training accordingly. He also directed the officials concerned to continuously update the courses, trainers and use modern techniques as per the present and future requirements in the institutes of technology of Uttarakhand. He said this at the review meeting of the Skill Development department on Wednesday. Sandhu said that children should be indulged in skill development training as per their interest for which, officials should focus on providing training to them from Class VI. He directed the department to conduct visits to nearby schools through ITI trainers and conduct at least one skill development training every week. He said that the trainers should also be provided regular training as they also need to be updated constantly with the introduction of new technologies. He said that new trades should also be included in the training. The department should also develop a digital library to make online information about technology accessible to children, stated Sandhu. He also said that the department should also work on providing training to children directly in the respective industries itself for better training and work experience which can possibly be achieved through agreements with industrial institutions. The ITI labs should also be modernised and equipped with new and modern equipment to provide proper training to students.
The secretary of the department, Vijay Kumar Yadav informed Sandhu that the department is already focussing on providing quality training in partnership with industries under the Skills Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE) scheme. Also, 22 ITIs are being upgraded in collaboration with NABARD. An upgrade work of 24 ITIs is currently going on in the State under a World Bank project to ensure students would get quality training. Several facilities including quality internet, smart classrooms, workshops, smart and green campuses would be made available under this project, added Yadav.
