The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) claimed that the space scientists have successfully completed the first orbit-raising manoeuvre involving India’s third moon mission, Chandrayaan-3. An ISRO officer said on twitter that the spacecraft is now in normal health. “The first orbit-raising manoeuvre has been successfully done and it placed the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft at the 41,762 km x 173 km orbit. Four more Earth-bound manoeuvres will be conducted till July 31 and thereafter, the trans- lunar insertion will take place on August 1,” the ISRO officer said.
After the successful launching of Chandrayaan-3 on July 14, the ISRO chief S Somnath had said that the soft-landing of the spacecraft on the surface of the moon at 5.47 pm on August 23 is a challenging task for ISRO.
Notably, if the mission of soft-landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the surface of the moon is successful it will make India the fourth country in the world after the USA, erstwhile Soviet Union and China to achieve this feat.
