Issues of Tehri dam displaced to be discussed with Ministry of Power today
A meeting will be held at the Shram Shakti Bhawan in the national capital on Friday to redress the rehabilitation and resettlement related issues of those affected by the Tehri dam project. According to sources, it is expected that this meeting to be held between the Uttarakhand Government and the Ministry of Power could possibly result in resolution of various issues of the Tehri dam displaced which have been pending for years.
It is pertinent to mention here that despite various rounds of meetings held between the State government and THDC India Limited, the issues of the Tehri dam displaced could not be resolved. Due to this, a meeting has been called on Friday between the State’s Irrigation minister Satpal Maharaj and the Union minister of State for Power, Rajkumar Singh in the national capital. Maharaj said, “Issues including the 2013 collateral damage policy for evaluation of the eligibility of the Tehri dam displaced, private land or cash for rehabilitation of the remaining 415 Tehri dam displaced families, ferry boat, school buses and two ropeways in the Bhilangana and Bhagirathi valley affected by the Tehri dam reservoir will be discussed in the meeting. I am hopeful that the way to the solution to these problems will definitely emerge from the meeting.
The demand for resolving the problems of the Tehri dam displaced has been raised consistently. There are various issues related to the rehabilitation directorate and other project related subjects which cannot be resolved by the THDCIL but need to be resolved at the level of the Ministry of Power. This is why the meeting on Friday is important and will prove to be a milestone for resolution of problems faced by the project affected people,” said the minister.
