Ist JN-1 case surfaces in Doon & U’khand
Septuagenarian woman found infected with coronavirus’s variant
Friday, 12 January 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN In latest news from Dehradun, the first case of the Coronavirus’s sub-variant JN-1 has surfaced in Uttarakhand, prodding the State health department to get on a proactive mode to contain it before it spreads its tentacles. The State health sources confirmed it and said that the infection has been detected in a 72-year-old woman following the Gnomic sequencing of her sample. Earlier, taking a serious view of the spike in subvariant JN-1 cases in several States, particularly in Kerala, the State government had issued high alert and released standard operating procedures (SOP) in December last. Notably, two persons, including a septuagenarian woman, had been found corona-infected on January 3 and 4 in Dehradun. Thereafter, the health department had sent the samples to the Doon Hospital laboratory for testing. The testing confirmed the presence of subvariant JN-1 in the woman. Though the woman had no travel history she had come into contact with a relative who had recently come from the USA. However, the relative is not Covid-positive. The Dehradun district nodal officer of the integrated surveillance programme C S Rawat has confirmed the presence of the subvariant in the patient’s sample.
