The Income Tax department conducted raids on various establishments in Dehradun that also allegedly included the house of the chancellor of a private university. According to the sources, the team of the IT department allegedly started the raid at multiple sites simultaneously at around 6 AM on the day.
A team from the IT department reached an apartment in the Pearl Heights building located at Anurag Chowk along with the police. The police team was from Haridwar as per the sources. They also stated that the teams raided the chancellor’s house in the Vasant Vihar area as the department suspected him of indulging in financial irregularities and tax evasion.
The officials reportedly checked the property and associated documents for about two hours. Besides this, other raids are believed to have been conducted on the properties of businessmen as well but there is no official confirmation on the matter. The IT team also carried out similar raids into the properties of a businessman in Haridwar on Tuesday too.
Though the officials in Dehradun did not give any official statement on the matter, it is being said that the IT department will conduct more such raids in Dehradun and other districts of the State in the near future.
