Jan 22 to be dry day in U’khand

In latest news from Dehradun, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the district magistrates to declare January 22-the day of consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya-as a dry day on which all the liquor shops across the State would remain shuttered. He further said that a string of religious and cultural programmes like lighting diyas, recitation of Ramcharitmanas and devotional songs and kirtan presentation would be held in the State from January 14 to 22 with people’s participation to mark the temple consecration. While chairing a virtual meeting with the DMs at the Secretariat, the CM said that sanitation drives should be conducted in all the major shrines, ghats and important places in towns and cities. He stressed on the point that all the consecration-related programmes must be conducted with active involvement of not just the government and its agencies but the Mahila Mangal Dal, Yuva Mangal Dal, self-help groups and organisations engaged in social works aside from the common people. He said that prasad to be made of millets would be offered to the devotees at all the major temples and gurudwaras in the State on January 22 and added that the district which would be adjudged the best in organising programmes during this period would be appropriately awarded.
