A ‘Jan Aakrosh’ rally organised under the banner of Sanyukt Sangarsh Samiti was taken out in Pauri on Thursday in protest against the alleged laidback attitude of the administration and the State government regarding the longstanding demands of the people of the district. The protest rally started from Ramlilla ground and culminated in the Collectorate after snaking through Upper Bazaar, Agency Chowk, Mall Road bus station and Dhara Road. The markets were closed in support of the rally.
The members of Sanyukt Sangarsh Samiti submitted a memorandum containing a 12-point charter of demands to the chief minister through the office of the district magistrate. The demands which figured in the memorandum include regular disposal of garbage, dismantling encroachment, appointment of specialist doctors in the district hospital and reduction in water and house taxes.
Sangarsh Samiti convenor Naman Chandola said that the largely attended protest rally had articulated the people’s collective anger on the apathy being shown to the justified demands being raised for the past 23 years. “We have been at the receiving end of administrative indifference since Uttarakhand was carved out of Uttar Pradesh in 2000. Now we are at the end of our tether. Patience running out, we will go for a vigorous stir in the coming days if our demands remain unaddressed,” he said.
