The Jhanda Mela committee recently held a meeting with police officials to discuss the arrangements for the Jhanda Mela slated to start on March 19. Chief manager of the Mela committee Madhusudan Semwal informed that security measures and a traffic plan were addressed during the meeting. A police post will be established at Darshani Gate to ensure security at the Jhanda Mela and the functioning of the CCTV cameras was also discussed as a precautionary measure to monitor every activity in the Mela.
Semwal said that installation of fire extinguishing equipment has been sought for safety. This year, it is anticipated that five lakh devotees will visit the Mela. In response to this expected crowd size, the Police department has been asked to facilitate security for the crowd. Additionally, private security personnel will also be deployed alongside police personnel during the Jhanda Mela. If the number of devotees increases, private security will be adjusted accordingly.
Semwal emphasised that other important decisions were taken in collaboration with the police administration to ensure the smooth conduct of the main event—the hoisting of the holy flag—on March 19. Notably, from Wednesday, the arrival of devotees from across the country and abroad has started in Darbar Sahib. A group of 150 members of a group reached here on Wednesday evening.
