Jhanda Mela preparation starts with raising of flagpole in Haryana

 The preparations for the famous Jhanda Mela in Dehradun have started and according to traditions, a team of devotees under the mentorship of the head of the Shri Darbar Sahib, Mahant Devendra Dass headed for Arrayanwala in Haryana on Monday morning.  On reaching Arrayanwala the old flag mast was brought down with religious fervour. The holy pole was bathed with milk, curd, ghee, butter and Gangajal. Large number of the devotees were present on the occasion.

 It is pertinent to mention here that as per the tradition, the priest of Shri Darbar Sahib had left for Bara Gaon, Haryana on March 8 along with the Hukmnama (order) of Sajjadanashin (spiritual superior of the shrine) of Shri Darbar Sahib, Dehradun. On arrival of this order the Sangats (Devotees) start their march towards Dehradun.

       The chief manager of Jhanda fair organising committee, Madhusudan Semwal said preparations of the fair are going on at full swing. He said that from March 15, the process of arrival of ‘Sangat’ devotees from India and abroad will gain momentum.

Semwal said that all the necessary preparations for including welcome and stay for the devotees have already been done by the organising committee.

 On March 19, the Shri Jhande Ji (the holy flag pole) will be raised marking the beginning of the month-long fair.
