The recent departmental promotion in the education department has created problems for thousands of guest teachers working in different schools of the state.
In the process of promotions, the department has appointed 850 lecturers after the end of counselling process in different schools of the state. These teachers serving as Licensed Teachers (LT) were promoted to the posts of lecturers. These 850 teachers are of Biology, Physics, chemistry and Geography subjects. With the joining of these promoted teachers, the guest teachers working on these posts would be shown exit. It is clearly mentioned in the appointment letters of these guest teachers that their jobs are purely temporary and that they would be removed from the posts once the permanent teachers, either by new recruitment or by promotions are appointed.
Anticipating their bleak future the guest teachers had met the education minister who assured them that the new appointments would be made on the vacant posts and not on those where the guest teachers were working.
However this relief proved short-lived as the Rajkeeya Shishak Sangh (RSS), the powerful association of lecturers and LTs of the state threatened to start an agitation if the demand of the guest teachers was accepted. After the threat of RSS, the education department started a process of promotions in which all the posts where guest teachers were working were treated as vacant.
