Joshi directs officials to speed up rural development works

The State’s Rural Development minister Ganesh Joshi chaired a meeting with officials to review the status of various schemes being implemented by the department. Apart from discussing the execution of various central and state government schemes, the minister also sought information about the progress in construction of check dams, water harvesting works and fishery facilitated by the department. He said that the tasks to be completed within 100 days should be concluded on time. Joshi also issued necessary instructions to the officials regarding the quality of roads being constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). He said that the construction of roads and bridges approved under the scheme should be completed by September this year. The amount to be paid to farmers as compensation for the use of their land for construction of roads should be allocated soon, the minister said. He sought clear information from the officials within a week regarding the allocated and pending compensation. The minister also directed the departmental officials to prepare a work plan for preventing migration of people from border regions of the state. Joshi said that the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gramin Kaushal Yojana should be widely publicised through various media so that more people can derive the benefit of this scheme. Under this scheme, the trades which have more scope for employment should receive special focus so that as many youth as possible benefit from the scheme. He further directed that a plan should be prepared to make self help groups stronger and that construction of bridges should be completed on time.
Additional chief secretary Anand Bardhan, Rural Development secretary Sachin Kurve, Rural Development commissioner Anand Swaroop, additional secretary Udayraj Singh and others were also present in the meeting.
