The State Agriculture and Soldier Welfare minister Ganesh Joshi felicitated the families of the soldiers who sacrificed lives in the Kargil war at the Shaurya Vandan programme organised by Allen Institute, Dehradun on Wednesday. During the event, Joshi presented mementos, shawls and cheques worth Rs 11,000 to the families of the soldiers martyred in the Kargil war.
Speaking on the occasion, Joshi said that the mortal remains of the martyrs were not previously sent to their homes and only their ashes were handed over to the relatives with the information of their martyrdom.
“But the BJP government initiated the process of sending the mortal remains of the martyrs to their ancestral homes with full military honours,” the minister said and added that the State government has committed to providing a job to one family member of any soldier in the army or paramilitary forces who die in the line of duty and emphasised the State government’s continuous efforts in that direction.
He said that it is the nation’s duty to honour and respect martyrs and ensure the welfare of their families. “A grand Sainnya Dham is being constructed in the Guniyal village of Dehradun to honour the soldiers. The construction is in its final stage and soon the Sainnya Dham will be dedicated to the people of the State,” he said.
“The State government has been implementing multiple schemes for soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families, committed as we are to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their dependents,” Joshi said.
Additionally, during the programme, Joshi also felicitated the Allen Institute students.
