Joshi pitches for supply of Harsil apples to Assam

In latest Uttarakhand news, the State agriculture minister Ganesh Joshi met the Assam State Agriculture Marketing Board (ASAMB) chairman Manoj Baruah, its chief executive officer Tej Prasad Bhusal and other officials in Guwahati. During the meeting, Joshi was apprised of details related to agricultural activities and the functioning of the wholesale markets of the agricultural produce in Assam. Baruah informed Joshi in course of the meeting that currently 23 mandis or wholesale agriculture markets are operating in Assam and the number of employees of the board is 700 out of whom 42 are direct board members and the others are associated with the mandis operating across the State. Plus, the board officers apprised Joshi of the high fertility of Assam’s agricultural fields, the processes of harvesting cops, their storage and marketing. While the ASAMB officers spoke about huge quantity of bananas being produced in Goalpara district and supplied to other parts of India Joshi spoke about the good quality apples being produced in the Harsil region of Uttarakhand. Joshi said that these apples are now reaching up to Kolkata. It is learnt that fruitful discussion was held at the meeting on the potential of Harsil apples to be supplied to Assam. Joshi assured the Assam officers that if the northeastern State shows interest in the apples from Uttarakhand, the Uttarakhand government would extend its full assistance to Assam.
