Joshi visits Central da Abesata, Mexico’s largest wholesale market

The State agriculture and farmers’ welfare minister Ganesh Joshi visited on Wednesday the biggest wholesale market of Mexico known as Central da Abesata which is also one of the largest wholesale markets of the world spread over 833 acres during his foreign tour. He was informed that about five lakh people come to the market daily. Joshi talked to president and senior office bearers of the wholesale market and sought detailed information about the functioning of the market. He also told them about the upcoming Global Investors Summit slated in December in Dehradun and stressed on enhancement of trade between the two countries through the medium of wholesale markets.
In a statement released after the minister’s visit to the wholesale market, Joshi appreciated the cleanliness there and said that on his return, he would talk to the agriculture marketing department officers on firming up a sanitation plan for the State’s wholesale markets. Besides, he stressed on growing imports/exports of products involving Mexico and India.
Notably, the minister is now in Mexico to participate in the international conference of the World Association of Wholesale Markets being organized in Cancún city from October 25 to 28. Representatives of 112 countries are participating. This conference is focused on enhancing agricultural marketing and the challenges facing agricultural marketing at the international level. This will be followed by a 2-day conference slated in Germany on agricultural marketing and challenges and Joshi will also participate in it.
