Joshimath-Auli ropeway closed amid rising Covid-19 cases

The Joshimath-Auli ropeway has been closed on Monday after 27 ropeway employees were found infected with coronavirus in the peak season just after snowfall on Sunday. The tourists staying at Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN)’s Nanda Devi Eco Huts in Auli who were supposed to reached Joshimath and GMVN parking lot by chair lift and ropeway, due to the closure of both, had to face a lot of problems in coming back from the resort. Nigam’s manager Kishore Dimri told that the tourists staying here were safely transported. The officials said that samples of 34 persons in Joshimath were taken for Covid testing and out of these 27 came out positive. The ropeway was sanitised by the authorities on Sunday. This development comes at a time when a considerable number of visitors have arrived in Auli to enjoy skiing and other recreational activities making it a tourist hotspot.
