The first snowfall of the season has been received at Joshimath and Auli. Though the snowfall is generally welcomed by the locals, the change in the weather at a time when people of Joshimath are suffering from the consequences of land subsidence has further raised anxiety levels of the local residents. The families directly affected by the subsidence are facing more problems due to the drop in the temperature. The winter sports destination Auli is covered in about one foot of snow.
As forecast by the meteorological centre, the higher reaches of the State experienced snowfall on Friday. In the Chamoli district, snowfall was reported in Badrinath, Auli, Valley of Flowers and other high altitude regions. The snowfall has heightened the cold conditions in these regions. The Chamoli district magistrate said that due to the change in the weather the authorities did not carry out demolition of any cracked unsafe building in Joshimath on Friday.
