The protest movement being undertaken for 107 days by the Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti was suspended in Joshimath on Thursday. However, the protesters have warned that they will undertake a major agitation if no action is taken on their 11-point demands by the State government soon. It will be recalled that the Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti had been protesting for 107 days on various issues related to the land subsidence disaster in Joshimath.
Their main demands include declaring the entire Joshimath town as a disaster affected area, making the survey report of eight institutions of the country public, stopping NTPC power project, imposing a penalty on the company considering the project as a cause for the land subsidence, closure of Helang-Marwadi bypass and other demands. The protesters had been staging demonstration in the Tehsil compound in support of these demands. The Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti convenor Atul Sati said that they will undertake a massive agitation if the government fails to take any action on their demands in 20 days.
