Several judges from the Supreme Court, High Courts and District Courts participated in the second and concluding day of the North Zone II Regional Conference, organised by the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal in Dehradun on Sunday.
Justice Rajesh Bindal spoke about the e-Court Project, stating that it is progressing in phases across courts. He highlighted that matters such as online traffic challans are being resolved through virtual courts. He pointed out that this reflects a lack of awareness among litigants. He also emphasised the need to improve infrastructure. Justice M Sundar addressed the issue of data security, identifying it as a major challenge. He noted the importance of planning for contingencies in case of data collapse and suggested storing data on multiple servers. He appreciated the efforts of the e-Seva initiative and shared information about legal translation software. Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva spoke about the adoption of e-services and said that system changes take time to be accepted. He also discussed the concepts of swift and empowered justice.
Both Justices Sundar and Sachdeva shared their views on the use of artificial intelligence in preparing judicial orders. They talked about how much assistance AI can provide in this process, the challenges involved and questions of legal accountability for any resulting issues. The discussion also covered how to address online abuse and violence. The conference concluded with closing remarks from Justice Ravindra Maithani of the Uttarakhand High Court, who expressed thanks to the participating judges.
