Jumbo kills woman returning with fodder

A woman was killed by an elephant in the Ramnagar area on Wednesday morning. The woman was part of a group of women returning with fodder for cattle from the jungle.

According to sources, 58-year old Vishna Devi lived in a village in Dechori range of Ramnagar forest division. While returning with fodder from the woods, she was reportedly attacked by an elephant from the back. The jumbo stamped on her chest, killing her on the spot. The forest department and police officials reached the site on being informed about the incident. This area adjoins Corbett national park and is rich in wildlife. This is the second incident involving an elephant in this range.
