Jumbo tramples down farmer, triggers protest

In latest news from Uttarakhand, in continuing human-animal conflict resulting in human fatalities, an elephant trampled down a farmer identified as Dharmu Bhagat (65), resident of Haripur Tongia village in Buggawala of Roorkee, while he was keeping a vigil on his farmland at night.
Angered by the death, a large number of villagers gathered at the forest outpost and staged a vigorous protest, demanding appropriate compensation from the forest department. They also staged protest at the Roorkee Civil Hospital and demanded their protection from increasing wild life attacks.
