Jump in gold sales makes Deepawali golden for jewellers

Enthusiastic shoppers have made this Deepawali golden for jewellers considering the booming business here on Dhanteras. The occasion is considered auspicious by many Hindus to purchase gold articles but the sales were less last year due to the weaker economy and Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the jewellery stores received a considerable rush throughout the day this time with various shops also offering heavy discounts and prizes to attract more customers on the occasion. Many stores remained open till late in the night due to the rush of the customers.
The owner of Kamal Jewellers, Agrim Rastogi said that the business did unexpectedly well this time than the last year. He said that the increasing vaccination rate and decreasing cases of Covid are the main factors that motivated more people to shop for gold articles on this Dhanteras. He said that the customers started arriving in their stores at 8 am on Tuesday and purchased varieties of gold ornaments with heavy discounts and got rewards with each purchase too.
Mahendra Verma from Punjab Jewellers also said that the gold business was almost like the pre-Covid times in the city this year. The president of Dehradun Sarrafa Mandal, Sunil Masson also said that the business of gold items did as well as it used to be before the Covid pandemic hit the state. He said, “The sales did not just escalate this year but it rose to the same level as they were before the pandemic.
All the jewellery stores in the market did great business this year. The sales of gold articles this year have really sparkled this Deepawali for local jewelers,” he added.
