PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The chief secretary Anand Bardhan held a meeting with the senior officials at the Secretariat on Wednesday regarding the preparations for the annual fair scheduled at Kainchi Dham in Nainital on the occasion of its foundation day on June 15. He directed the police, district administration, Public Works Department and other related departments to take necessary steps to ensure a smooth conduct of the fair.

Bardhan directed the PWD to draw up route plans for smooth traffic flow for the next 10 days when the pilgrim number peaks. He also called for zonal and sectoral plans to be prepared for the shrine and mela premises. He also said that parking and route plans should be publicised locally, within the State, and also outside the State, to ensure that the pilgrims face no problems with darshan and accommodation. He asked them to mark alternative routes and black-topping of the roads in anticipation of huge traffic movement during the mela days.

The CS directed the officers concerned to ensure proper arrangement of basic facilities like drinking water and toilets among others.  He further stressed on completing the beautification and lighting works in and around the shrine at the earliest.

Furthermore, he said that the entry and exit routes for the multi-level parking should be managed systematically so that traffic flow remains smooth in the parking area while laying stress on arranging shuttle service for commuting from the parking area to the shrine.

About emergency preparations, he urged the officers concerned to firm up an evacuation plan and keep police and the shrine’s security personnel in the loop. He spoke about adequate health facilities and ambulance arrangements, too.

Among the senior officers present virtually were the secretary Dhiraj Singh Garbyal and commissioner Kumaon Deepak Rawat. Others present were the IG Kumaon Nivedita Kukreti, district magistrate Nainital Lalit Mohan Rayal and senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC.
