Kandwal also asks SSP to take action against Semwal

The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW), Kusum Kandwal has asked tge Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh to take immediate action against folk singer Pawan Semwal. She said this taking cognisance of the lyrics of a song which some have foubd objectionable and derogatory to women. The police have already booked Semwal.
Kandwal condemned the actions of Semwal, who is currently residing outside the State, accusing him of attempting to tarnish the image of women’s empowerment and the reputation of Uttarakhand through the use of offensive language. In a letter to Singh, she said that USCW became aware of Semwal’s song from social media, which contains indecent and derogatory remarks about women.
Kandwal said that Semwal’s comments reflect a shameful mentality towards women, which is unacceptable. By performing such a song, he has sought to damage the reputation of both women and State and this behaviour is intolerable. She asked the SSP to act against Pawan Semwal, adding that the USCW should be kept informed of any developments in the case.
