Kandwal asks officials to place sanitary pad vending machines for female inmates

The chairwoman of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW), Kusum Kandwal asked the officials concerned to install sanitary pad vending machines for for female prisoners at the district prison located at Pursadi in Chamoli district. She said this while conducting an inspection of the Chamoli district prison on Wednesday. Kandwal said that during the inspection she inspected the facilities available to female prisoners and enquired about the basic amenities being provided. During this, the jail officials informed her that there are currently three female prisoners in the women’s barrack, with space for up to 60 prisoners. She also examined the food, medical care and other arrangements for female inmates. Apart from this, she asked officials concerned to install sanitary pad vending machines at the prison for female prisoners, she said.
She further said that in addition, while conversing with the female inmates during the inspection, she expressed that her sole reason for being present is to directly address the issues faced by the women prisoners and offer solutions to the challenges they face and to solve their problems. She even urged the female inmates to address any issue they faced in the prison in front of her without any hesitation.
