Kandwal asks police to take strict action in case of domestic violence & other gender crimes

The Uttarakhand State Commission (USCW) for Women chairperson Kusum Kandwal has asked the Rishikesh police to take strong action in cases of violence, harassment and other offenses against women. She said this during a public hearing held at Rishikesh Kotwali on Friday.

Regarding this, she informed that during the hearing she emphasised the importance of addressing the issues facing more than 50 victims who came forward. These issues ranged from financial fraud to domestic violence. Regarding this, she instructed officials to take appropriate legal measures to address these cases and provide justice to the victims. Kandwal further highlighted the increasing number of women seeking help from police stations, posts and commissions, underscoring our collective responsibility to support these individuals in need and ensure they receive the justice they deserve. She additionally noted that she initiated an inquiry into the alleged molestation of a young girl at a salon in Doiwala and obtained details from the inspector in charge of Kotwali Doiwala, instructing them to take decisive action against the perpetrator. She also ordered inspections and scrutiny of various establishments such as salons, spas and hotels in the vicinity to address any potential issues, she said.

 Further, in the hearing she also addressed the distressing gang rape of a 15-year-old girl from Haldwani in Delhi, communicating with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Nainital Prahlad Meena to ensure strict penalties for all involved parties. In addition to this, she emphasised the importance of providing the victimised girl with comprehensive care, security and counselling. Apart from this, she added that numerous concerns, incidents and related matters were discussed with women during the meeting, prompting her to issue necessary guidance to the officials concerned.
